Welcome to African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, commonly known as the Giraffe Centre. Founded in 1979 as a core breeding Centre of the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe and further escalated its conservation efforts in 1983, opening up an outstanding environmental education centre for the Kenyan youth. As of now, A.F.E.W (K) Ltd. – Giraffe Centre deals with breeding of the endangered Rothschild giraffe, Ecology Trips, Training of Trainers Workshops, National Environmental Competitions, Funding Micro-projects, Monitoring and Evaluation, Production of resource materials among other environmental conservation activities.
Escape from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi to this giraffe’s sanctuary. Visit the giraffe center and have fun caressing and kissing the giraffes as you feed them straight from your mouth! Open throughout the day.
The Giraffe centre Nature santuary approximately 95 Acres is an indigenous forest, a remnant of the natural forest that once surrounded Nairobi.
The nature trail/walk stretches about 1.5 kilometers meandering through thick bushes and forests. This leisurely stroll begins directly in front of the parking lot at the Giraffe
There are variety of flora and fauna that make this forest an ideal habitat for various animals including the giraffes hyenas, butterflies, dragonflies, birds, warchogs, bushbucks, monkeys, squirrels and sometimes we get leopard.
Activities such as nature walks, bird walks, tree identification walks ( Botanical walks nature interactive learning and treasure hunts can be arranged.)
